Cape Fear Volunteer Center to host Azalea Festival 5K/10K Walk/Run
On Saturday, April 5, 2014 the Cape Fear Volunteer Center will host the Azalea Festival 5K/10K Walk/Run in Wilmington, NC. The event is held at Mayfaire at Try Sports Field. The race begins at 8:00 AM with day-of registration from 6:30 AM to 7:30 AM. The entry fee is $35.00. All proceeds support the Big Buddy program. To promote a healthy lifestyle, participants under 12 can participate for free.
Sign up a team of four (4) or more and get serious discount: reg $30 each. Team of 4+ 108$, $3 off each team member. Name your team, wear costumes for the costume contest. The course is certified by Try Sports and the race will be professionally timed by Atlantic Coast Timing. There will be prizes for top three male and female runners. There will also be a prize for best costume. In addition to the walk/run there will be music and food.
The walk/run benefits the Big Buddy program. This program is a one-on-one mentoring program that matches at-risk youth ages 5-16 in New Hanover and Brunswick counties with positive adult role models. Youth are identified as at-risk due to involvement with the juvenile justice system, excessive school suspensions, poor academic performance or a lack of positive role models.
The Cape Fear Volunteer Center is a 501 C-3 that recruits and trains volunteer mentors, matches , volunteers with youth, offers support and guidance through case management, and provides monthly group activities.
