Event Description

It's still not too late to join!!

It's not just a training team, it's a social training team!!

Would you like to get in shape to run the Monument 10K in the Spring?
Do you enjoy socializing with fellow runners?
Do you like to have a post run meal and drink with friends?

If so you should join the newest running club - The Richmond Pavement Pounders!!
Runners of all abilities ranging from strictly casual to competitive road racers are welcome.

The training program will last 10 weeks starting on Jan 23. Each Sunday, the team will meet at 10 a.m. for a group run, then head to the sponsor bar for a post workout meal and drink. The group run meeting location will include places like Byrd Park.

Registration fee is $50.00
This fee includes:
• A 10 week training program
• Entry into the Monument 10K
• Specials each week at the sponsor bar The Republic on W. Broad
** A Pavement Pounders T-shirt
*** A group of around 50 people where you actually get to know the people you are training with.

You can register at one of the group runs or at the sponsor bar - The Republic.
You may also register via mail or with one of the coaches in person at anytime. Sign ups end on Jan 31, 2010. Entry fees must be received by then and will be non-refundable.

Three levels of experience

Beginner - For anyone who's never run a 10K before, can only run two or three miles at a time, or who's goal is just to finish the Monument 10K without walking.

Intermediate - For those who have run a 10K before and can run four or more miles at a time and want to either: Get in shape to do it again. Run faster than they did last year.

Tailor-made program - The Pavement Pounders are a small group and will be a much more personal experience that the other training teams. As a result, the coaches will be able to tailor a program for the more advanced runners. If you want to run under 40 minutes or are training for a half marathon, that's fine too. But be prepared to drink a beer after the run!

Head Coach - Jason Dowdy
Jason has been a competitive distance runner since the age of 14. He attended Virginia Tech where he was a cross country and track captain, four-year letter winner, and a conference 10K champion. Since college he has continued to compete in races from the mile to the marathon. His 10K personal best is 30:55. Last year, he finished 19th at the Monument 10K and won his age group in a time of 33:50. Jason has also been a member of the local River City social sports league for three years and knows how to have fun, too. He will be assisted by his wife Mary and their fellow running friend Melissa Richardson.

We will have a 1 mile option for the first week. The goal for the beginner group is to gradually get to 6.2 miles by the end of the 10 weeks. We'll start small and work our way up each week during the long run. There will also be a training schedule during the week, too.

I can currently run only a mile.  I noticed your beginner group starts with 2 miles. Can I join this group

Hey, I'm looking to get into some 5 & 10k's while I'm up here. I'm new to the area. Is this group closed or are you still accepting runners? I live downtown so it looks like this would work out perfect for me.
