Event Description

This program is designed for experienced marathoners looking to run a spring 2010 marathon. The program will have four schedules aimed toward the Mardi Gras Marathon in New Orleans (Feb 28), the National or Shamrock Marathons (Mar 20/21), the Boston Marathon (Apr 19) or the Eugene, OR Marathon (May 2).

For each out of state marathon, we have teamed with travel professionals and we will have an RRRC leader to help you coordinate your travel, accommodations, etc.

When you sign up for the group, here is what you get:
-Training program (starts on Saturday, December 5 but you may join up through Jan 15.)
-Organized weekly group runs on Saturday or Sunday morning
-Weekly pre-planned routes for the long runs;
-Self Serve water stops set up with cups, water, and Gatorade
-Assistance with travel logistics for one of the sponsored races

Fees for the RRRC Marathon Training Group:
Since we will be using public facilities, we are asking for the following donations to defray costs.

RRRC Members $10
Non-members $25

RRRC Membership in RRRC is only $15 per year for individuals. By registering for this team, you are in effect becoming a member of the RRRC. The group is limited to 200 participants but we reserve the right to make sure we do not over tax public facilities. Register early!

Non-RRRC members are encouraged to participate as well. Training Team fees are non-refundable and entries are non-transferable, no exceptions. Although we have not put an entry deadline on the program, after January 15, entries will only be accepted at the discretion of the coaches.

The Head Coach of the Program will be Mike Davi.

Logistics:
The weekend runs will be staged from the Dogwood Dell in Byrd Park on Saturday and Sunday mornings, leaving promptly at 8am (time will change as daylight increase and the weather warms.) Routes will be posted on the Spring Marathon Training Group section of RRRC website each week prior to the run. In order to get team emails, you must join this “group” as a member on the RRRC website.

Training Program:
This program is designed for experienced runners who have completed previous marathons. It is NOT designed for novice /first time marathoners. Participants should be in condition to run at least 7-10 miles for the first group run. Runners will be responsible for their own safety on the roads.

There will not be a sign-in/out list, so it’s advisable that runners do not run alone. This training program is a cross between a training team and a social run. People go to have fun. At the same time the group is experienced runners who are there to train for a marathon. The groups leave on time and generally don’t waste time at the water stops. The training groups provide a group atmosphere for you to run a pre-planned route with individuals of equal or better ability.

The Long Slow Distance workouts on Saturday or Sunday mornings will run similar routes as much as possible, and will be designed to accommodate running different paces. The group will be provided with water stops of water and Gatorade, but they will generally be unmanned.

Coaches are there to lead the groups and answer questions.
