Supporting running in the metro Richmond area
5k this month
I have a goal of doing an official 5k race each month this year. I was wondering if any of you guys knew of one happening either in this area, the beach area or even the DC area that you could recommend doing for my January 5k.

If there isn't a local 5K (which there is always one, except in January), you can always look at the Washington Runners Report website, which covers all races in Virginia, DC and Maryland. here is a link to their calendar, where you can search by date, state, city, distance, etc.

The content of this website is your friend. You can click on the race calendar toolbar on the left on the old website or the events icon at the top of the new website to get local racing information. For out of town races I tend to use the links section of the old website and view the race calendars on the Running Journal or Washington Running Report. For me this is easier than looking at the FARC, CTC, Tidewater Striders websites individually.
If you are up to the challenge, Russell Gill is putting on a trail 5K on Observatory Mountain at UVA on the 24th.

Theres a great 5K in Greenville, SC I know its far... (https://www.raceit.com/Register/Default.aspx?event=163)
Besides the C-Ville Trail one, the only other I think is in the Valley, (www.svrunners.org)
In February there is the Greater Richmond SCAN 5K in Short Pump (https://www.raceit.com/register/Default.aspx?event=301)

There is a 5K in Grafton, VA on January 31. The race starts at a high school about 5 or 6 miles off of the Rt. 64 Fort Eustis exit(Newport News area).

The Running Journal (Link on Original RRRC site) shows a couple 5K's on the Virginia Race Calender that are at Va Beach. Both listed as cross country, one at Mt Trashmore. Both in January. Phone contacts on listings.
