Supporting running in the metro Richmond area

I'm just a 10:00 miler that is looking to join up with a team.  I've already done a 5k/10k double one weekend this year -- just to see how I'd do in a 200 mile relay!

Or if there's enough of us "tortugas" out there -- I'd be glad to start up a team for the relay!

And if you haven't heard of the event, the Colonial 200 is a team relay race from Crozet to Williamsburg.  The race is broken down into 36 legs - varying in distance and difficulty.  Teams are up to 12 people, so each runner will do about 3 or 4 legs totalling 14-18 miles.  There's plenty of downtime to recoup, rehydrate, and relax inbetween your runs!

BTW -- How many people out there have a "200" sticker on their car?!

I grew up outside of Charlottesville so I have run many of the roads on that part of the course. In fact, exchange zone "F" is in the church parking lot across the road from my mother's house. Whoever gets the 5th leg coming out of Earlysville gets a good hill coming out of Advance Mills.

Now that I am in Kentucky, The Bourbon Chase is a much better option and the rewards along the way from the distilleries can't be beat.

You will find that the most difficult task in a relay of this sort is the logistics of getting folks where they need to be when they need to be there.

Good to know -- the organizers are giving a "Mountain Man" award to whomever runs leg #8 of the course.  That leg is just 5.6 miles -- but takes you up Walnut Mountain and its 8% grade.

Unfortunately, the most difficult task I am having is finding folks to run!

The Southwestern Mountains are not that significant, I can't believe that you would have much more than a 400'-500' elevation gain to get over them.

If you can get a full team and the 2 volunteers to bring

1) the price down :)

2) the total miles down per runner  I am in

Including you Hervey, I've got a team of 4. We were up to 6 - but some folks bailed. The Colonial 200 has a Facebook page that we might be able to find another runner or two. I'll keep you posted!

From one of the Race Directors.  We have 38 teams in the two races to-date and are aiming for 50 - 60 teams when all is said and done

I am interested - I have been trying to generate some intrest in a team myself but have had no luck at all. Do you still need runners?

My normal email is gkwhisler@msn.com

Great! I'm not going to talk any $$ until we hit a critical mass (about 10 runners). From there, I am sure we can get another 2 for a full team! In the meantime, I've started to train for the Richmond 1/2 to get the legs ready. I've also posted on the Colonial200 Facebook page to get some more runners.

From one of the RD's ... we have found that having each team member invite at least 2 - e
3 runners usually does the trick.
The team is reaching the critical mass point! We are up to 9 -- with two on the fence!

I'm interested in joining a team. I'm an 8-9 minute miler (don't care how fast or slow others on the team are though...), live in Cville. Also, I have a minivan that can be used, if that's of any help. Feel free to email me... hersey.sand@gmail.com. I might have a friend who's interested too...

Hey Andrew -

Not sure if you are still interested in running the Colonial 200 -- but many teams are looking for injury subs!  Head over to the Colonial 200 Facebook page.  There were three open spots the last time I looked.
