Supporting running in the metro Richmond area

Despite the fact that we've just had one of the wettest Novembers on record - the Bear Creek course is in good condition. Naturally there are some very muddy spots and some standing water on the trails, but the creeks are normal, that is, no more than ankle deep with many of them crossable on stones or with a good jump.
An advantage/disadvantage this year is that I have measured the course successfully with a GPS watch and it is "still" 10 miles. I plan to put mile signs on the course for the run. Right now there are pink and black striped flagging tapes at the mile points (Radar if you see this post please don't remove the markers).
I will be at Runner Bill's for packet pickup on Saturday from about 10:30 to no later than 1pm.
An important reminder about driving to the run - the State Police very actively enforce the 55 mph speed limit in Powhatan and Cumberland. So drive carefully.

Thanks for the update Kevin. I am so ready to get this race over and done with. I will certainly keep the speed limit in mind, especially since I am known to have a lead foot.
Kevin: thanks for the update on the course. I am dismayed that the water level hasn't increased in the creeks. This current front coming through the area might help throw in some much needed H2O. I noticed that you didn't mention "the swamp" in your update. The long range forecast calls for a low of 27F on Saturday night. Sunday is supposed to be in the 40's and sunny so conditions are perfect for Gary Hearn's "swamp recipe". And lastly, is it true what someone said about you walking through the course with a leaf blower??? I sure hope not!!!
Thanks for the update! Looking forward to those creek crossings...
Two questions:
1) Anyone meeting up to carpool? I live downtown & would love some company.
2) Do we need to pick up our packets on Saturday or can we get them the day of?
Thanks!
Dana: I am supposed to be getting a ride with Lisa Childress, whom I call "Dudette" just so you don't get confused in future posts/conversations. You are welcome to join us for the ride. I suggest we meet at the same location: Virginia Asset Management at 7am which is the first turn off 288 when you take Rt 60 east (Midlothian Tnpk). Dudette, do you copy??? BTW, don't worry about those creek crossings, you're a veteran at this trail running stuff now!!! You can do it!!!!!

I would recommend getting your packet the day before on Saturday. Its just one less thing to worry about on Sunday morning.
Thanks, Joe! I'll meet you guys at 7 am, same location as before.
See you soon!
Dana: don't forget an extra pair of shoes and a plastic bag.
Joseph,

I don't need a ride, but I would like to be able to follow behind someone. I don't live too far from 288, but I am unsure of the location. Is there a bank and a karate place near it? Thanks.
Packets can be picked up Sunday morning. Saturday is just for the convenience of some participants.
Joe - I did go out and blow the leaves - but I was blowing them onto the trail in any area they might have not been deep enough.
For anyone worrried about what Joe calls the swamp - I have never lost a shoe or a runner in this area but it's just, plain sloppy fun!
None that you know of.............???????
Kevin;

You've never lost a shoe or a runner......what about a toe?

Run Happy

Joe - maybe those creeks will be frozen like last January and we can all ice skate across.
I doubt it cause despite the fact that it will be below freezing overnight, its not gonna be a hard freeze. Sunday is supposed to get up into the 40's. Those are the conditions that I believe Gary Hearn was describing that could turn "the swamp" into something similar to "sweat potato mush"!!! I can't wait till the return trip through it. Should be a sucking experience to say the least!!!!
Dear Kevin,
Hello! Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Thank you for all you do with the wonderful trail running!
Kevin, just curious if there is a waiting list available for this run as I know it is a very treasured race with the beautiful scenery.
