Supporting running in the metro Richmond area

All - I am planning on running the Bear Creek 10 mile trail Sunday, November 22 at 8:00am. Come on out and join me. All are welcome, even if you are not planning on running Bear Creek. Be sure to bring some type of hydration system. I use a hand held bottle, others use camel backs, Nathian hydration packs, fuel belts, etc. What ever works best for you. Also, no littering on the trail.

Dudette is sharpening up the pencils as we speak or post:) Thinking about bringing my cowbell to ward off the "Swamp Monster" or use it as a warning for any hunter:).
Dudette: thanks for the heads up on the cow bell but you would probably just alert the Creature to your location, he'd come snatch you up, and then I wouldn't have a ride back to Richmond. So ditch the cowbell idea please. Just throw your sharp pencils at the Creature and if that don't work........climb a tree.
I'm getting the vibe that "cowbelling" isn't appropriate etiquette when trail running:). Will go with Plans B & C which are wearing lots of brightly colored clothing and laying low to the ground:) Since Hearn hasn't RSVP'd to my invite, I've got room for 2 more in the "Zippy" car in case any of your trail running buddies are daring enough to run in it:)
Joe,

Good "shoe sucking" mud in the swamp requires a hard freeze the night before the race. That causes the moisture to come to the surface where it crystallizes and then is subject to the morning sun and the trampling of shoes. Not so bad for the front-runners coming back, but pretty treacherous for the others....
Gary, you are right but today would have been a good sucking day if we had 150 runners run through "the swamp" both ways. And the race is 2 weeks away so enough time for the weather to change to our liking. Guess this would be plenty initiative to be one of the first ones back through the swamp on the return trip or face the black muck. And this obstacle isn't something you can really detour around or worse yet risk getting lost in "the swamp". If that happens we can send Dudette in to search for the poor slobs. She's expendable as long as she gives me her cat keys.
If I get taken down in the Swamp OR left in the woods, the carkeys go with me. Capiche.......
I was under the impression that Kevin was going to rake all of the leaves off of the course before the run. Also that he is putting indoor/outdoor carpet over the swamp. ;))
I was under the impression he was gonna have more water pumped into the creeks and that he was gonna go out and stir up the swamp.
Two miles!!!??? Two miles!!!???? Hey bud, it was more like .3 miles and I did say, "this does not look right", :-) Still awesome fun with all the runners, roots rocks, fallen trees and that ONE creek crossing. :-)

Hey Buddette: if you read my entire post you will have noted that I was still recovering from the rigors of the workout you put us through so my mind might have been a little delirious so my guess on how much extra mileage we ran might be a little tinny bit off. LOL Of course you are to blame for my altered state of mind when making my last post. More LOL.:)And as far as YOUR CREEK, I just have two questions: How many toes do you have on your right foot? and How many ears do you have sticking out of your head?
Good times yesterday...and it was great meeting everyone! Thanks for everyone's support and lessons on how to correctly cross a stream! Don't worry...next time during the race I will most certainly take the plunge & do it the right way without fear!

It was a fun run...reminds me of being a kid...playing in the water, getting your shoe almost sucked off by the mud bogs, tripping over stumps, crossing logs, getting lost. Loved it!
Dana: To be honest you surprised me cause I thought after you found out we had to cross creeks I just knew you were a definite DNF. Well, I was wrong. And although you need to work on your creek crossing technique, (remember the shortest distance between 2 points is a straight line) you did gut it out and finished well. I was impressed. You should not have a problem in the race. And yes, it was a fun run in the woods. Meet us at Pocahontas Park anytime for a trail run. I hope the fact that we have only one creek crossing there doesn't disappoint you.
