Supporting running in the metro Richmond area
Here is the first notice of a couple of very special December running events. If you haven't yet done either/both, then this is your year!
Winter Solstice Trail Run: The Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) Thursday Night Group invites you to join us on Thursday, December 22 for a 8+ mile trail run. The run starts at 5:32pm on Sheppard Street between Benedictine School and the MFA parking structure. Headlamps or a hand held light source is mandatory. We will run to Pump House Road, across the Boulevard Bridge and then onto the Buttermilk Trail, cross Belle Isle and VCU, and finish with a tacky light tour of the fan on our way back to the MFA. Afterwards it is likely that a handful of athletes will head over to the Galaxy Diner for fried oreos and holiday libations!
6th (?) Annual Christmas Eve Run, Cookie Exchange and Breakfast: You won't want to miss this one! We meet at the Robins Center at 8am to begin a liesurely run across the UofR, over the Huguenot Bridge, along the James River and up to the Stratford Hills Shopping Center (volunteers are neded to have fluid at the turnaround) and then back. After returning to the UofR we'll exchange cookies and baked treats, so bring your best to give out and a ziplok bag to take home some treats! A bunch of us will then head over to the Westbury Pharmacy Cafe for a great breakfast and lots of holiday frivolity! This run has been designated as a MUST DO HOLIDAY RUN! So don't miss it!!!

Permalink Reply by Mark Iscool on November 23, 2011 at 8:04am This posting was simply a place-it-on-your-calendar warning salvo. More will follow once we've digested the turkey, stuffing, green bean casserole and pumpkin pie... :)

I know it's the traditional Christmas Eve route , but in consideration of the Huguenot Bridge work and lack of a safe pedestrian access, the Grove Avenue / Retreat Hospital route might be a better bet.
Just a suggestion.

Westham doesn't get a lot of traffic, but lots of people use it for biking and running, and there's plenty of space and no stoplights. Also, there's a service drive near Patterson Ave. where a water table could be set up. This wouldn't be as far as the Huguenot Bridge/Riverside Drive route, though.
Wow, headlamps and Buttermilk. I've never done a night time trail run before, but it sounds like fun. If I can get off work early, I am in!
