Richmond Road Runners

Supporting running in the metro Richmond area

I am a Nursing Student at J Sarg.  I am currently in training for the Ukrops Monument 10K and my first half marathon in May.  I am looking for a running group that can help me with my weekly runs, with some hill training as well.  Mile 10 of the Historic Half Marathon in Fredericksburg (in May) is all uphill...

Any suggestions for running groups would be so helpful!  Thanks!

Catherine, have you looked at the Groups(Runs) tab on this page. Take a look at the days and meeting place. That is a good way to start
There are many different groups, but what comes to mind is where you live, and your goals and pace. If you go to the Group (Runs) page I believe each group indicates location and pace.

The Byrd Park Group under Group (Runs) is always a safe bet. They are awesome. Lots of different runs, and yes they have track workouts and I am sure hill workouts. People in this group run all kinds of different races, pace, age, goals, etc. You can all check out their msg. board posts under BPG. They list the weekly runs and there is lots of communication between runners.

I do not run this group, but they have won the award for best RRRC running group since I became a member in 2004.

In fact, check out their current post titled, "byrdparkgroup.com, week of feb 22-28.10"

Thank you so much! =)
New RRRC member? Come out and run Huguenot 3 miler Sunday as part of your training and meet a lot of the members. $5 for members, $10 non members. You could volunteer if you don't want to run. Very fun low key race.
What part of town do you live in? What is your training pace and what part of town do you live in? That would be helpful in finding the right training group.
Unfortunately, I will be unable to make this Sunday's race.. :(

I live in the Fan, literally 5 blocks west of the VA Museum of Fine Arts. I've been running more towards Willow Lawn on Grove and Patterson, but will need to get creative once my milage starts picking up in the next two weeks. My training pace is anywhere from 9:30 to 10 minute miles. I'm wanting my race pace for both approaching races (Monument 10K and Historic Half Marathon) to be around 9:30.
You live 5 blocks from a group run that meets every Thursday from behind the Va. Museum of Fine Arts. We meet up at 5:30pm and run different courses each week. We usually have a short and long option and depends on how many miles you need to get in. Usually its either 5 miles or 7-8 miles. You will find varied paces and usually approx 20 runners show up. You are welcome to join us.
Thank you! I actually have a 5 mile run I need to do next week! =) Do I need to look or ask for someone, or just show up?
Catherine;

The Museum group is a great group of runners. I went over to the "groups (run)" tab and pulled this for you:

We meet behind the Museum on Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. We run approximately 8 miles at an 8-minute pace. Call Gary at 741-0411 for more details.

There is a half marathon training team that starts up in a few months which you might consider joining. It is a RRRC & Sportsbackers training team that helps runners prepare to run the Patrick Henry 1/2 marathon that is held in August in Ashland. I do not know if you are considering that race, but the team is a great way to meet fellow Richmond runners and form your own weekly running group based on goals and pace.

When is the Patrick Henry group starting up again?

Catherine: just show up between 5:15 - 5:30pm. We park along the street. No problems there. If you run the shorter option, you are done around 6:35. Our runs almost always take us to either the Omni or a Fire Station so everyone can get some water, take bathroom break. Then the short group heads back and the long group heads on out for 2-3 extra miles. The camaraderie is great and there are varied paces. You'll have fun. Hope to see you join us.
How far does the shorter group run? I'm still just trying to build my base miles and haven't run more than 5 miles at a 9:30-10 minute pace. If I can join, who should I look for?
