Supporting running in the metro Richmond area

It seems to me I remember there was a change in what age group one went into and how it was calculated. I believe rounding was used and perhaps this accounts for the added year. If you were born past the round date you would go into the next age year and perhaps if your timing is correct a new age group. Thus your age listing would look one year higher on the race roster. Mine was listed as 51 for the bridge run even though I am a young 50. This is what I do on a Saturday night...very sad.

I meant to add this to the discusion on wrong age listing for the Frost Bite...
Well Joseph, you caught my attention with this one, and it will make a good time to clarify something, even though you were talking about something else.

What you remember about your age group classification is in reference to the RRRC GRAND PRIX. (Which I calculate thoughout the season.)

As you may recall, the Grand Prix season starts Oct 1 and ends Sep 30. (This was done before I took over from Bob Ericson. It gives us more time to accurately calculate winners, etc. before the banquet at the end of January.) So the method for determining which age group you are in for the Grand Prix season is based on your age at the MIDDLE of the season, which is April 1. For example, If you turn 20 BEFORE that date, you'll be in the 20-24 age group for the season. If you turn 20 on or AFTER that date (like Michael), you'll be in the 15-19 age group for the season. (In your case, you're in the 50-54 group now - for the grand prix.)

However, all RACE results are determined SOLELY by your age on race day. Always should be that way. (Unless you do triathalon's etc. where they use the end of the year age. But I digress.) Ed did say that Raceit fixed the glitch showing everyone a year older for frostbite. It probably stemmed from that other standard.

Thanks for bringing this up - I hope everyone gets involved in competing for the Grand Prix. To qualify as a finalist, you only need to finish 5 club races, volunteer at one club race, and one contract race helping at the finish line (and of course be a member at the start and end of the season). All finalists receive a highly coveted grand prix prize and a free invitation for themselves and their guest to the banquet, no matter whether they place or not. Any questions, please drop me a line.
Thanks for your time.

There was a software problem. It has been fixed.

I assume that means Oct-Sep. and throughtout those entire 12 months? Brings up a question based on recent posts on membership renewals. Several have inquired on membership status on posts and some were found active and some expired. With the membership directory problems caused by the hacking, will individuals be excluded from Grand Prix for lapsed memberships? Will this be handled on individual basis?

I guess any new member joining after Sep 1 is also ineligible? I think this has been explained before but don't recall the reasons. A new member is already at a disadvantage if joining later since fewer races would be available. But I guess this may be done to save the Grand Prix administrator from adding new names to those eligible as only those members as of Sept 1st would be eligible and would only require checking winners memberships at the end.

The April 1 age is new? Previously thought it was year end age (when year end was 12/31) and you carried any younger age group points into your new "advanced" age group.

Thanks in advance for any clarification or corrections to my statements on this.
I have a question regarding the info on the home page about the 2009 club championship races. It lists 5 races clearly enough as club championship races, but im assuming they are for the 2008-2009 grand prix season? Which would mean that the Toy Run 5K just held by the club was along with Bear Creek the first two of these five races? Im only confused because it says winners will be recognized at the 2009 banquet (not that that includes me ;-) ) and im assuming the 2009 banquet is held in january of 2010....
Club Championship race are awarded on a calander year as opposed to the Grand Prix..

Oh so many questions. One at a time.

Due to the problems with the membership last year, and in keeping with our club mission to encourage running, I have decided to be as inclusive as possible with the 2008-2009 Grand Prix season. I might catch some heat for it now that I print it, but so what - it's supposed to ENCOURAGE running and participating in the club.

So, the website problems prevented many from renewing and/or joining. But the problems were resolved in the last quarter of 2008 (Oct-Dec). So the Grand Prix roster includes people who may have expired in 2008 but not renewed. I think this is pretty generous. So long as they renew before the end of the Grand Prix season, they will be qualified to compete in the Grand Prix. Also, I waited until Jan 1, 2009, well after the new membership database had been started and the Grand Prix underway to get additional names from there. So there was an extra 3 months to join the club for the 2008-2009 Grand Prix. One time deal - because of the membership problems of last year.

I won't DQ anyone for a little lapse in their membership during the season, so long as they renew before the end of the GP season.

Finally, as for the age group cutoff - I'm pretty new to the club (4 years), and I only followed the GP since about 2006. I think the rules back then said the age group cut off was the middle of the year. Then in 2007 was a short year season of 9 months Jan-Sep, so that we could have Sep-Oct Season in 2008. Bob probably still used June 1 in the 2007 season, but in 2008 I used April 1 and posted to the message board and had the rules clarified too.

But regardless of your Grand Prix age, your points from individual races are supposed to be according to your age on race day. So if a person were 19 on a race day, they would be in the 15-19 age group and receive points according to that group for that race, even though they might be in a 20-24 age group for the Grand Prix.

I hope that gets things covered. Thanks for asking. Any individual concerns, please click on my link and send me a private comment. General stuff - put on the message board.

PS: To see the Grand Prix Rules, click on Grand Prix under the Events menu on the homepage.

Thanks.

How are points tracked if a woman gets married or divorced and her last name changes?
You just have to let the Grand Prix administrator know. (That's me.)
As long as you are still you, you will get all the points no matter what your name is.
Where is the new membership database?
