Supporting running in the metro Richmond area
Anyone want to share their long run trails/where to go? I am looking for trails and routes that are 8+ miles long in or around the city.
Happy running everyone!

I always enjoy running on the downtown trails. I like to start in maymount, then take the buttermilk trail to either the floodwall or belle isle and back to maymount via browns island and the northbank Trail. Its a pretty popular route, always plenty of others runners. You can make it 8-14 miles depending on how your feeling. Here are 2 variations...
Permalink Reply by Mark Iscool on July 15, 2012 at 11:25am Richmond has a bunch of urban trails, which receive both grass-roots and parks department support. The NorthBank Trail western terminus is in the gravel parking area on Pump House Drive (behind the Boulevard Bridge toll plaza). That trail heads east along the Jamer River and ends under the Lee Bridge (about 3 miles). Crossing Belle Isle to the south side of the river, the circular stairs go up to the Riverside Towers water fountain, and the eastern terminus of the Buttermilk Trail. Buttermilk heading west goes thru Reedy Creek, at which point going thru the tunnels under Riverside drive puts you on the Forest Hill Park tril loop (about 3 miles). Continuing on Buttermilk west puts you back at the Boulevard Bridge, making B'milk a 3'ish mile route.
The Monthly Trail Run is a group run used to introduce people to trail running and the trail system. The run takes place the 1st Saturday of each month and leaves from the Pump House Drive parking area at 8am. The distance is 7'ish. The pace is 10:00 per mile or better. It is posted to the message board on or about the last Saturday of the preceding month. Or you can contact me (Mark 651-5415).
I think Matt Merrill may have meant "Maymont" and not "maymount". But I'm not certain. But please note that Maymont does not connect directly with Buttermilk.
