Supporting running in the metro Richmond area
I need to get a watch and have no idea where to begin looking. I'd like it to tell me my distance, pace would be nice too but overall time would suffice. I have small wrists and have had trouble in the past with regular watches being too large for me.
What watch do you reccommend?

Permalink Reply by Tyrone O. Watkins on November 21, 2011 at 4:31pm I bought a Garmin FR60 2 years ago and it has been a God send. It requires a footpod (no GPS) but that is what I like about it. No waiting for satellites or problems running under canopy with signal loss. Plus you can use it inside and at the gym to track weight training workouts. I swear by this watch/heart rate monitor/footpod combo. It really keeps me motivated and helps me track all of my workouts. I think you can get one now pretty cheap because they just released the FR70, same watch from what I can tell, so you can't go wrong either way.
Permalink Reply by martha on November 25, 2011 at 7:59am I second this rec for the Garmin FR60. I like mine -- the footpod is easy to tuck under your shoelaces, or if you have Nike shoes, it will fit in the slot under the left shoe insole. The HR monitor has made training more interesting. The women's model is just a little bigger than a regular sports watch (I have small wrists, too.) It's available in a bundle pack that includes the foot pod, heart rate chest strap, and ANT+ stick (allows you to download workouts to the computer...then these workouts are automatically transferred to garmin.com which has a nice workout log interface.) The bundle pack can be found on sale online for about $179. Garmin also has great customer service.
For a regular running watch, I've always worn the Timex Ironman mid-size.
Permalink Reply by Chris Harnish on November 25, 2011 at 8:51am I recommend the FR60 or possibly the newer FR70 for all the same reasons they said. But also a few more things that you want to consider. I wear my FR60 daily as a watch, because it is a watch. It is not a huge chunk on your wrist that you would only wear for running. Also, the FR60, foot pod and HRM all have replaceable batteries that you can do yourself and no need to charge anything. The batteries for all three are the same (CR2032 , I think) and can be purchased anywhere.
All of the units are waterproof to 50m and the FR60 will track swims, runs and biking.
This guy's review of the FR60 convinced me to get it and I haven't regretted it yet:
