Supporting running in the metro Richmond area

Despite three bands of rain---the race went on.  Happy to volunteer and watch some great effort on the part of all runners.  Having voluntered last year---this was a much better venue--and having the road closed to traffic allowed the competiors to run without the overarching fear of becoming a hood ornament on a BMW.  As someone told me tonight---this is a really good club--so if you ran, directed, volunteered, or just sat on your butt---be proud of this organization and what it does for all levels in the Richmond Area.

John,
You are so right about this running club. It is tops and stellar, and the people are the very Best and Wonderful. Including you--thanks for your kindness at the waterstop. The RRRC is a gem. The people in it, true Joy and goodness.
I agree! Last night's race was really fun. Perhaps because I was volunteering this year and didn't have to run, but I had a blast! I think the rain added a little flavor to the event and made it a memorable Moonlight. There are some top notch people in this club who MAKE THINGS HAPPEN! Thanks also for the ice cream!! I had seconds :o)
Thanks to Karl Cover and all the volunteers for putting on a fun evening run in spite of some trying weather conditions! I really enjoyed the no-traffic course through West Creek--plus the course marshals and markings (thanks Michael & Mark) made it easy to follow.

Thanks for all the volunteers who stood out in the rain for us slow folks!!! That downpour that started in the last half of the race for us was actually pretty welcome to me! It felt wonderful!
Seconded! I was very pleased and impressed with the turn out and enthusiasm of the volunteers. I was pretty grateful for the rain, but I doubt it was as much of a gift to the volunteers.

The course was great too. Run Happy, I'm not sure if they were slightly rolling under my feet but it was cool to up the ante.
Karl;

Loved the new course!!!! Awesome place for the race. Nice slightly rolling course. I got to see and yell at the leaders and friends. The rain made it even more fun, though I do wish the rain had washed the humidity away. Until next year!

Great even, inspite of or maybe thanks to the weather. That rain before the start did take a lot of the humidity out of the air. I think this may become one of my favorite courses. Traffic at prior location just too much and most courses in housing developments are not among my favorites.

Great job volunteers and Brusters. I guess I did not realize the course was completely closed to traffic. That was great. I guess I though it the usual Goochland Thursday evening since I saw no cars. And I missed the word to put light on back side, I guess red is a "tail" light. Used to running at traffic with light on front side. (Huh, if no traffic why lights? Stay deer? Lost runners?)
Terrific race, nice course and great volunteers. It was a large and happy crowd too that stayed till the end. I never heard such happiness and cheering for someone else winning. I thought someone was going to pop champagne corks when the Garmin was finally won.

Great job Karl and everyone else who helped out and put up with the rain.
By the way John, the song title pun did not go unnoticed, at least by me and maybe some of the other old f@$%, I mean folks.
I loved the race. It's nice to have a change of pace. With the 4m distance, time of race, rain instead of heat, ice cream, trophies and a garmin watch, it feels good to do something new and refreshing.

Great race Karl and All volunteers!

Thanks to everyone that came out to help or run in the rain. There aren't too many clubs out there where you can put on an event in conditions like this and not hear the least little bit of whining or complaining.

I'm still relatively new at race directing (six years and counting now for Moonlight) but we have several members who have been directing races for years. Michael George, Mike Levins and Kevin O'Connor, to name a few, have been doing this since the Eisenhower Administration. Although getting insurance, lining up the police, ordering awards, arranging for porta-johns, buying snacks, etc.. can be exciting, I think we keep coming back because of you, the members. It's nice to have your efforts appreciated.

I have to give a shout out to Glenn Harvill, the owner of Bruster's ice cream, who has been with us at Moonlight since the beginning. He provides his ice cream to us at cost so please visit him at his Twin Hickory or Mechanicsville locations if you're in the mood for ice cream.

I didn't find out from the Goochland Sheriff until race night that the course would be closed to traffic so that was a nice surprise.

Thanks again to all who participated and hope to see you next year.

Karl
