Supporting running in the metro Richmond area

Hey guys, I'm considering buying some new running shoes pretty soon and my budget requires that they're worth the investment.  I have no special fitting requirements, but I prefer a pair thats lightweight, breathable, and breaks in well (don't we all).  I've heard a lot of positive feedback on the Nike Free 5.0 and I'm definitely leaning towards them.  So to any of you road runners out there that have bought a pair, give me the skinny....Leave in them, or leave them on the shelf?

This is such a coincidence! I just received a brochure in the mail about these!
I have had Nike Free in the past and got my first from the wonderful Runner Bill's. I Love them!
Very lightweight like floating on clouds!
I just checked the catalog I received in the mail--it's from Roadrunner Sports out of California, and what I was looking at is called Nike Free Run. It says it is brand new shoe and will be available starting in May.
So I think this is a bit different than the 5.0, but I have tried the various types of Nike Free, and I really do love them because it's like not wearing shoes at all, they're so light.
I guess it depends if one' personal preference is for this kind of shoe. I do prefer this, but someone else may prefer more cushion or stability, etc. The Nike Frees I find have a barefoot like flexibility which is wonderful but only if you like that.
I bought the nike free 5.0 a little over a year ago. I find them useful as racing flats and for particular shorter runs, but hesitate to train in them alone because there is no stability. For example, you could not take them to poor farm park, or to the riverside drive trails, ever. So, I find them helpful and fun in some circumstances, but not all. I have been through a few pairs of Brooks Adrenaline, and find them just right.
Thanks for the heads up Eileen, I've decided to add a pair of Frees to my portfolio and I'm interested to see what new dynamics come with the Free Run. And I'd heard a lot about the crazy flexibility which is actually what attracted me to the shoe. Maxfield, I'll def consider the stability when I run in the Frees and I've researched the Brooks Adrenaline and coincidentally they were the same running shoes that got me through basic training in Oklahoma! Crazy hills and trail running out there, so they're def tried and true in my book dude. Appreciate the name drop

I have never been able to wear Nike's, I usually wear Asics but have a pair of the new K-Swiss Tubes Run 100's on the way. I love to try new shoes but usually go back to Asics. I recently tried on a pair of the new Reebok ZigPulse, they run big and it felt awkward just walking on them. Good luck!
Wonderful Dana,
I was so curious about the K-Swiss Tubes you mentioned, I looked them up, and wow!--these look great! The information says the shoes feel like they are custom made for your individual foot, hug your feet, and no break-in period necessary-- very, very comfortable always!
They are comfortable but run big. I need probably a whole size down from what I normally wear. They are very light weight and seem comfortable but until I try them in the correct size, I won't know how they perform. Hopefully I'll find out soon, Eileen!
Beautiful Dana,
Hope these work out for you! They sound fantastic!
Wishing you a wonderful day as terrific as you are, Dana! See you soon beautiful friend!
I've run in Nike Frees for a year after reading Born to Run. I love them as a transition away from super stable shoes, which really do screw up your natural foot mechanics. I've since moved on to Vibram Fivefingers and found the transition easier than most folks, I think in part due to the year in the Frees.
I'm currently reading Born to Run and it's turning out to be an interesting read. It's changed my perception of running shoes and have gained much respect for ultramarathoners.
I called up the Roadrunner Sports out of California to ask about the Nike Free Run I saw in their catalog, and if this is correct, the person I talked to told me it is the newest and updated version of the Nike 5.0---it looks great!
Yes they do Eileen. I've decided to go with them by the way and it's thanks to your info. I can only find them in a few stores, but I'm glad to see that they are already on the shelf regardless. The extra padding for comfort and the released midsole for extra flex promises to be a winner! The best part is that they're still only 85 bucks, even with the upgrades. You rarely find steady pricing like that on Air Maxes or any other Nike for that matter. I Plan on snagging them this weekend. Alex and Matt , I think Im gonna have to check out this Born to Run that you guys mentioned, but what exactly did you guys read in there that flipped your running shoe preference?

P.S. I'm digging the energy on this website. Didn't expect this many responses and advice and I appreciate it.
