Permalink Reply by Pete on August 5, 2012 at 10:02pm Still needing lots of volunteers for this race. This race is pretty much run by RRRC volunteers so we need lots, particularly for all the water stops.

Permalink Reply by Pete on August 8, 2012 at 9:04pm Thanks,
Yes, the volunteer registration is a bit different than the usual RRRC volunteer registration. Sportsbackers teams with RRRC to put on this race and we are using the Sportsbackers volunteer registration. That said, pretty much all the race volunteers are RRRC members or recruited by RRRC members.
Permalink Reply by Old Guy on August 13, 2012 at 9:10pm RRRC much better...thought I was applying for credit card
I just signed up to volunteer for water stops but need to be at one of the early water stops as I have to get to work that day? How is the best way for me to communicate this to the people doing the scheduling?
Thanks
Diane Glaze
First Time volunteer!
I will take care of it Diane! We will put you at the Mile 2 water stop.
You will receive this information again, but here are the specifics --
DIRECTIONS FROM RICHMOND:
Take the Ashland exit off I-95 north. That exit number 92 and is the second exit (Rt 54 west) Continue on Rt 54 west crossing over Rt 1 (3rd traffic light). Continue on Rt 54 thru Ashland and crossing over the railroad tracks (Center Street).
Water Stop # 2 Plan to arrive by 6:15 am
Once you cross the railroad tracks take the immediate left onto Center Street This is the road in front of the Iron Horse Restaurant. Go approximately .7 miles and turn right onto Francis Street. Water stop is south of the intersection of Francis and Duncan Street. Park on Francis as runners will be running on Duncan going north.
Hi Lisa
I also just signed up my boyfriend, Stephen Kelley who wants to work at the packet pickup for saturday AM. I assume someone will contact him with directions to where he needs to be and at what time?
Thanks
Diane - as you can see this is both our first times volunteering!
Hi,
Thanks for recruiting for us! He will receive an email with instructions next week.
-Lisa
Hi Lisa, i can probably do more than one water stop. I need to leave the area by 9:45 am so feel free to move me around or sign me up for another water stop a little later in the race. I don't want to just be standing idly by not being helpful! I can also do whatever else needs to be done.
Thanks!

Will you respond to Hervey's post? I am not sure if you send out a confirmation upon volunteer registration.
Permalink Reply by Pete on August 13, 2012 at 8:22pm Still looking for a lot more volunteers, particularly water stop volunteers and race marshals. Please sign up online at the Sportsbackers volunteer link above. RRRC volunteers are out there at every point of the race and we need a lot more. Sign up as soon as we need to know that we have the race covered.
Permalink Reply by Karen Gammon on August 16, 2012 at 11:57am Dear members: Except for the first year of this ran when I ran, I have volunteered every year since. I have to tell you that helping out at this event is SO. MUCH. FUN. I like to course marshal, but the water stops looked like they were having a lot of fun last year. You get a great t-shirt, and it is helpful as a runner to watch other runners, especially in an event like this. You really can learn a lot by watching. You should seriously consider doing this one.
