Supporting running in the metro Richmond area

I just received the award from the SunTrust marathon. Did anyone else notice that the date printed on it is 2008? Also the plague makes you think that I ran the marathon and not the 8K,

One last discovery which goes back to the date is that the date printed on the plaque is November 15. The correct date should be November 14, 2009. Is this a case of recycling?

i was so excited to receive such an nice medal for my age group placing until i noticed the date, as well. it would've been quite an accomplishment to place 1st in my age group at almost 8 months pregnant, back in november 2008. i've chosen to just giggle about it and tell my kids what great energy pregnancy gave me. or maybe they will send us the corrected medals eventually.
Intersting...anyone remember a few years back when Virginia was misspelled on the Shamrock Marathon and Half Marahton medal? I decide the medal was some thing special and unique.

Linda - I will be interested to hear what Sportsbackers says about the date issue.

Run Happy - Looks like misspelling in contagious. "Marahton" - That was funny to me but I'm wierd anyway!
For a 3 race event that is as big as this event is, this mistake is a rather dismal reflection of attention to detail that was first shown by whomever put together the plaques and by whoever had the responsibility of sending these awards out to the age group winners. And, its not like this mistake was suddenly discovered at the awards ceremony. There was time between the race and when the recipients received their plaque to correct these errors. If noticed, these plaques should have never been mailed to their recipients. If these errors went unnoticed, someone has their head in a dense cloud. I don't want to even begin to suspect that this was a case of recycling. Could it be that this mistake was discovered but decision was made not to redo plaques because of expenses involved??? I wonder if any plaques that the open winners got had mistakes on them??? The right thing would be for Sportsbackers to send everyone corrected plaques as compensation for their mistake.

Linda: Hope you are having a nice holiday season. Big question for you. Now that Ukrops is going away does that mean that now you will stay longer at the Thursday Running Group runs and run the longer distance option with me????
I strongly suspect it was just an oversight, no excuse, but still unfortunate. The RD for Shamrock a few years back admitted it was his responsibility and he just missed it. He was taking full responsibility for the error and not making an excuse. Did Shamrock send out corrected full/half/8K medals....no (just think of the cost for thousands of medals plus postage), will Sportsbackers send out corrected awards? I would be very surprised if they did not. I still believe Sportsbackers to be a class act, and while not diminishing the accomplishments of thousands (Shamrock medals), age group awards are something special and number only in the hundreds.

PS: I received a shirt for completing the 2008 Beast Series, the date...2009!!! Again minor oversight by RD...For $12 I got the date changed at a local embroidery store. It was worth the money to me to fix, but not worth beating up the RD about it.
One of my many job duties in the military was organizing and setting up reenlistment and award ceremonies. It was at times a redundant but important task and required special attention to detail. The people who receive awards for anything work hard for their accomplishment and deserve what they have earned. I went to great pains to make sure everything was right. Nowadays I have found that the acquired skill "attention to detail" has been lacking more and more often these days. Though I agree probably an oversight and yes unfortunate, it would be amazing if Linda Gulick was the first person who discovered the gaff. I believe that if this gaff was discovered before plaques were mailed out, then the right thing to do would have been not to mail them at all and get it right. Sometimes the right thing to do is also the hardest thing to do.
I believe the Sports Backers contract with a company to provide the plaques. None are given out at the race. All are mailed. It is a turnkey system. My guess is that the comapny made the mistake and that all will be fixed. Think of the headache this must be casuing. Three races times 3 deep male and female in 5 year age groups = ~360 awards
I bet you are glad it isn't your headache!!! The guy who made the mistake is probably not happy right now. 360 awards plus postage equals a costly mistake.
I e-mailed sportsbackers and the reply said they would be sending our corrected awards. They were apologetic and placed the blame on the trophy company.
hey, dog, "wierd" how you misspelled weird. see, we all do it!

i will be glad to receive a corrected plaque so my 11 month old son won't think i was running that fast while pregnant :)

have a great day, everyone!
It wasn't a careless, hurried typo, I honestly didn't know how to spell it, or forgot how anyway!
Dog, when you are typing a word and see that little red line appear under a word, it means you misspelled it. Right click on the word and you will get the correctly spelled word to replace it with. Its a form of spell check.
