Supporting running in the metro Richmond area
I'm sidelined at the moment due to ITBS and I'm also starting to think Piriformis Syndrome. Looking for recommendations on PTs or Chiropractors that you have worked with who have helped with these issues.
I went to a PT a few months ago for some not running related neck/shoulder pain but was not impressed with them. Felt like I wasn't being payed attention to and was in the way. Just looking for other options.

Permalink Reply by Nicole on December 23, 2011 at 10:50am I haven't used a foam roller yet. I have The Stick and have been using that. Per doctor's orders I am out until Monday (which is a solid week) and am on prescription Naproxen plus doing general ITB/piriformis stretches.
It's been flaring since after the Richmond Half. This is what I get for PRing!
And to be quite honest, this "resting" is making my leg hurt even when I'm not running!

He researches running related problems and has been writing articles for Miles and Minutes for decades. He helped me with an imbalance problem a few years ago. He listens and will either be able to help you or send you to the right specialist. He cares about his patients and gives individual attention.

Permalink Reply by Lewis Pauley on January 12, 2012 at 3:03pm I'm a chiropractor in the area and I will tell you that chiropractic as well as a rigorous deep tissue massage program is one of the best and fastest ways to rid yourself of IT Band Issues. I actually became a chiropractor due to being sidelined with the same injury just 2 weeks before our West Virginia State Cross Country Championships in 2000. We still took team title, but it was very frustrating watching from the sidelines as a senior.
As I was saying, I began going to the chiropractor and he explained what ITBS was (I had been told by the high school sports trainer that it was "tendonitis" ... which was their answer for literally everything). I was one of the worst cases he'd seen (I had been sufferring half the season but continued running and training). Over 1 month my symptoms were completely gone and I was running again.
