Supporting running in the metro Richmond area

The downtown hotels are all booked and I'm coming from out of town. The Embassy Suites is on the 'official' list of the Richmond Marathon hotels, but they don't have a shuttle to the start of the race.  If we can get a bunch of people together who are going to stay at the Embassy Suites, we can pay a reduced amount for their shuttle to take us to the start on November 10th. If anyone has better ideas, I'm all ears.  The race information line directed me to this forum, as they didn't have any ideas either.  I've done 6 other marathons, to include NYC, Big Sur, and Chicago, and have never had such logistical problems and a marathon group that is so clueless when it comes to how to get to the marathon for people who are coming from out of town!

Good luck with getting group together. There will be many runners coming from the area of the hotel, maybe someone will offer a hookup? Not much public transportation to that area. If you are driving or have rental car, parking at the event is pretty good, especially if you arrive early. Embassy should offer service since they are benefitting from inclusion on the event site list, free or nominal fee.

Thank you!  I've also made another reservation to one of the hotel near the airport, because I thought they would have better access to taxis!  None of those hotels offer shuttle service to the start!!!

Good to know about the public parking! I'm driving from DC the day before, so I'll have my own car.  I called the marathon people and none of them offered the public parking as an alternative.  I'll have to look into that! Thanks for letting me know.

The same place that packet pickup is ,there will be a shuttle ($) to and from start finish

That shuttle is for downtown destinations.  I already talked to the people who run the Richmond marathon.  They were the ones who suggested that I use this forum to see if there are others who are staying far enough to pool our resources.  They said that they don't have a shuttle to places other than downtown.

There is parking information on the Marathon's site. Under Travel on the page menu.  I usually arrive early and get street parking but helps having city knowledge as some streets are blocked.

Organizers did direct you to the best source for assistance - RRRC is a sponsor and big part of this event.  You and others are welcome to post any other questions here.

Thanks! What do you mean by "early"? 5 am or earlier?

8K starts at 7:00 - I think I usually get there at 5:00 or 5:30.

thanks!

that's a preposterous place to stay. shame on them for including it as an option.

I live a couple of miles away from Embassy Suites, if you need a lift on that morning, let me know and I can pick you up. I got free parking in downtown. In fact I can take up to three people with me. shoot me an e-mail if you decide to go that way Ladan.

Doug, You're awesome! I'll take you up on that! I'll shoot you an email to figure out logistics. (I have to run out right now.)  Thanks!

Thank you for your kind words about our marathon and the event management team.
