Supporting running in the metro Richmond area
WooHoo! What a great morning for a trail run, and what an awesome bunch of runners that shared the local trails for an enjoyable run! There were 23+ in the group. Not bad! And how about the weather! Does anyone have the "official" time and distance?
If you don't know where we ran: We took the Buttermilk Trail west to Reedy Creek, then continued to the Riverside Towers trail head. After crossing Belle Isle we went up the hill at Tredegar to regroup at the eastern terminus of the NorthBank Trail (under the Lee Bridge). We then took the NorthBank Trail west to the Hollywood Cemetary, to the Texas Beach parking area and back to the western terminus/trailhead/parking area.
First Order Of Business: It now makes no sense to refer to those of you coming out to the future monthly runs as "beginners". So you won't see that label any longer. My thought is to refer to this run as the MTR (Monthly Trail Run). In agreement?
Future MTRs: You can mark your calendars for the MTR in future months. The details of each month's forthcoming run will be posted to this message board approximately one (1) week prior to each MTR (first Saturday) 8AM run. However, you will still need to respond to the message to let me/us know that you will be there. Otherwise, I may just sleep in!
Next Month: We will run over the Boulevard Bridge and take Buttermilk east to Reedy Creek, as we did today. From Reedy Creek, we will run through the tunnels that go under Riverside Drive, then run the Forest Hill Park loop (approx 3 miles), which brings us back to Reedy Creek. We'll then head back on Buttermilk west- to get in a total distance of 7'ish. Those wishing to go 10'ish can opt to leave Reedy Creek and take Buttermilk east to Riverside Towers (as we did today) and then follow the remainder of what we did today. As the next MTR will be the beginning of February, I imagine that the weather will be similar to what we had today (NOT!). Remember: The MTR will take place if there is anyone that wants to do it, and in ANY weather. Trust me on that!!!
Be well, Mark
I've got April on my calendar already! (That's the first one with no TT). Bummed to have missed it, but it sounds like you had a great turn out!.
