Supporting running in the metro Richmond area
I was planning to post information tomorrow - but I've had a number of email and other questions. So....
There is no advance packet pick-up. No time the day before since I will be making some final trail markings.
The race is the same place as the Bear Creek 10 Miler. We have the Bear Creek Hall for inside pick-up beginning about 6:30 Saturday morning.
Drive carefully on Route 60 on the way to the run. The State and local police are very active regarding speeding. Save your speed for the trails.
I've also been reminded that Saturday is the beginning of "winter turkey hunting season" as it is every year on this day.
Just don't wear turkey feathers or make gobble-gobble sounds while running.
The weather forecast is for a cool start in the upper 20's with temps getting up to the lower 40's. The rain yesterday and predicted for tomorrow will probably make the trails "muddier", but shouldn't affect the streams (I think!)

Permalink Reply by martha on January 11, 2012 at 3:32pm Kevin, did I read somewhere that we need to bring cash for parking this year? How much?
Thanks!

Permalink Reply by Kevin on January 11, 2012 at 4:26pm Martha,
Runners don't have to pay for parking.
We did ask runners to pay for parking last year.
We should really build that into the entry fee.
But the mechanics of collecting the money is not worth the trouble. The race makes some money so the RRRC can pick up the cost - plus we get credit for 25 cars as part of the Bear Creek Hall rental - so the overall cost is not a problem.
Permalink Reply by martha on January 11, 2012 at 9:07pm Thanks! I must have read something with last year's info. Looking forward to Saturday!

Permalink Reply by MCTH on January 13, 2012 at 6:58am I'm looking for a ride to the race. I live in the Byrd Park area near Maymont. I plan to run the 35K.
Permalink Reply by Mark Iscool on January 15, 2012 at 4:24pm I just saw your email message. I didn't receive a phone call as noted in my email. Oh well, maybe next time.

Permalink Reply by MCTH on January 13, 2012 at 3:11pm Mark,
The time is fine, but I don't have a car to get me to the West end. Is there anyone who will be caravaning with you who lives downtown that could give me a ride to the west end?
Permalink Reply by martha on January 15, 2012 at 8:27am Thank you Kevin, Radar, and the tireless volunteers who drove an hour or more to stand in the cold -- it was another great Willis River run! Other than the MUD, the course was in the best shape I've ever seen it. It's a good way to kick off the year. Thanks again for hosting!

Permalink Reply by Mark Iscool on January 15, 2012 at 4:29pm Kevin- Thanks for another great day in the woods. Yes, the notable signage played-out in my favor! I just wish that The Beast hadn't taken away my will to run the 50K. I trust that it will come back!
Mark
ps: Thanks for keeping my arm warmers safe. I'll be in touch to figure out when I'll pick them up...
Thanks for putting on a great trail run - do you know when the results will be posted? thanks.
