Training Program
The training program will be Long Slow Distance workouts on Saturday mornings from the John Rolfe YMCA or Patrick Henry YMCA. It will be complemented with clinics focused on half-marathoner needs.
This program is designed for both novices and experienced runners. You do not need to have completed a previous half marathon to participate. The runners will be broken up into sub-groups of similar abilities. Each sub group will have at least one coach to help out. You do need to be currently able to run at least 3 miles and should be running about 10 miles per week at a 12 minute per mile pace or better for the novice group. The first run will be 5 miles. The weekly long run will be gradually increased up to about 15 miles.
This training team is a joint production of the Richmond Road Runners Club, the John Rolfe and Patrick Henry YMCA's.

Novice: You should be able to do a 3 mile run, be logging at least 10 miles per week, and running at least 3 days per week consistently (running pace needs to be no more than 13 minute miles).

Comment by Todd Crider on June 1, 2011 at 9:43pm The response doesn't seem to be as high as in previous years. If you know anyone who would like to volunteer to man a sag spot then please send them my way. Thanks. Coach Crash

Comment by Michael George on May 31, 2011 at 9:35pm As the co-race director of the Patrick Henry 1/2, I would like to come out this Saturday to meet everyone and give a little update on the changes for this year. I was wondering if I should do this before the run and what a good time would be?
