Thinking of running a marathon this spring but not sure if you have the motivation to train on your own? Well, you’re in luck. The RRRC Spring Marathon Training Group is back for another installment and is better than ever!
Beginning Saturday Dec 3, this group will begin meeting at Dogwood Dell 8am for long runs in support of spring marathons. This year, the group runs will target the Shamrock Marathon, scheduled for March 18, and the Boston Marathon on April 16.
Keep in mind that this is really more of a group organized for long runs and not a team. So this group is geared more towards those who already have previous marathon experience. There is a wide range of runners who join, and with over 250 participants, it’s usually pretty easy to find someone who runs your pace.
As with years past, training schedules will be provided to runners. In addition, water stops with Gatorade will be put out every 3-4 miles in support of the runners. Group leaders will assist with organization of the runs, including route creation and setting up of water stops. Please consider volunteering to set up a water stop. This will go a long way in making this group successful.
We’ll plan on having runs on Saturday and Sunday. Routes will be posted no later than Thursday for the upcoming run. While the group volunteers may bring some printed routes to the run to share, it is up to individual runners to ensure they know where they are going.
It’s possible that we may encounter inclement weather. We’ve had to cancel long runs in previous years due to snow storms. If that has to be done again this year, a message will be posted on the web as soon as a decision is made.
All communications, including posting of routes, will be done through this website.

Comment by Harry Conn on March 20, 2012 at 5:27am Let's not forget Judith and Joe for getting up early on Sunday mornings and driving all over town to put out SAG's for us. Without them, Sunday would be just a group run. Hear, Hear!
Comment by Paul Harvey on March 19, 2012 at 10:14pm Mike and Bobby - Thanks for the great SMTT support this winter.
Comment by Amy Dusenbury on March 19, 2012 at 9:52pm I just wanted to thank Bobby for doing such a great job coaching the Shamrock runners. I was very nervous running with the "fast crowd", but everyone was as nice as could be. And it was great to see you at the hotel and congrats on a PR Bobby!
I dropped out of this group after my Miami race and after my spring marathon plans got cancelled. Glad to see everyone did well, despite the really warm conditions yesterday. Thanks to all of you for this well-organized, supportive team!
Shamrock run. Hope everybody enjoyed it. I was not there, but instead I did run with the Bryan Park Group. I discovered a very friendly group Plus this gave me the opportunity to discover new parts of Richmond, around Bryan Park. Joel
Comment by Karla McDonald on March 9, 2012 at 3:25pm Hey Everyone! Karla, this year's sagger, here. Just an FYI to bring your own gummie bears this week. I will be back to running. Don't want anyone to count on them being out there. Be safe out there! Good luck to everyone running Shamrock!

Comment by Chris Schmidt on March 2, 2012 at 1:46pm If some of us decide to run Sunday, does the Sunday group use the same route as Saturday? Same start time? SAGs?
Comment by Judith Isbell on January 1, 2012 at 11:50am Great FUNDAY run! Thanks for a great start to a NEW YEAR!
Comment by Chris Schmidt on December 15, 2011 at 4:19pm If you are looking for a group to run with during the week, there are two in the west end that run in the mornings. Tues/Thurs at 5:30 AM w/varied paces starting at Einsteins Bagels on Pump. Usually around 5+ miles. There is another group that meets on Wednesdays for the weekly long run starting around 5 - 5:15 AM depending on the mileage. Again varied paces. The Wed. group starts from the Martins's shopping center on Ridgefield. Let me know if you would like to be added to either group. chrisschmidt@comcast.net
