Supporting running in the metro Richmond area
The group will meet at 7am and will be running Long, Slow Distance workouts on Saturday mornings from the John Rolfe YMCA (actually in front of the ABC store). The run distances will be structured to prepare the group for a late summer half-marathon (such as Patrick Henry or Rock and Roll).
This group is open to both novice and experienced runners. You do not need to have completed a previous half marathon to participate, but you do need to currently be able to run at least 4 miles and should be running at least 10 miles per week at a 12 minute mile pace or better. Our fastest runners will be running their long runs at 7 – 8 min/mile. The first run will be 5 miles and the long run will gradually increase up to about 14 miles. There won’t be formal coaches, but we will have several experienced runners joining our runs if you have any questions.
Each week the group will provide a route and SAGs (water, Gatorade, and snacks) on the route. During the summer we may also meet up for mid-week hill and speed workouts.

Comment by Shannon Scoville on June 1, 2012 at 5:07pm I will be running half of the route tomorrow. Still following doctor's orders. Thanks!
Comment by Henry Witz on June 1, 2012 at 2:21pm Might end up missing the run again on Saturday. If I do hoping to do the same route starting at 6:30 because I need to be at my daughter's softball tournament by 8:30.
Comment by Henry Witz on May 26, 2012 at 12:24pm Look forward to meeting up with the group next Saturday for the 7 miler.
Comment by James Harris on May 25, 2012 at 9:52am Thanks for sending the whole plan. Unfortunately I'll be out the next two weeks. I'm likely skipping/postponing tomorrow's run as I pulled a muscle on Monday and I have the Stratford Hills 10K next Saturday. Anyone else doing Stratford Hills? If so, I'll hopefully see you there.
Comment by Shannon Scoville on May 24, 2012 at 10:01pm Thanks for the routes and details. I am glad I have everything, if I decide that I am not ready until the next 6 miler. I think I am almost there, though!
Comment by judy green on May 24, 2012 at 7:23pm I thought we would be getting weekly instructions for this training group,it's Thursday night, and it would be nice to have for those of us going out of town for the holiday weekend and unable to make the group run on Saturday.
