The course was very technical with rocks, roots and turns. But thats what trail running is all about. This course was well marked which is something I can't say about all the trail races I've run. The hills wear you down on this course. It was kinda like a cumulative effect that turns your legs into jelly. Pocahontas Park has more trails but is less technical with the possible exception of the Lakeview Trail. Buttermilk Trail is a stop and go adventure with the byclist. BTW Doug I have been heading over to Pocahontas once or twice a week at 5:30pm and doing this nice little workout: racing against the setting sun to try to get back to the trailhead before darkness. I had 30 min. of invigorating runs last week running the Beaver Lake Trails.
Anyway I too want to thank Mark for a well run low key trail race. Made me realize that I need to hit the hills a little more!!!!!
I ran over there more than 10 years ago..It was very technical at that time and lots of potholes, gave a whole new name to trail running. I'll stick to Pocahontas for now.
Ran in the Forest Hill 6 mile this morning. It was a great race, well organized. Thanks Mark! Looking forward to the next one!
Doug: I entered the entire series and have run the 2 previous races. Yes, thats fine with me. I saw your name on the preregistered list for the 3rd race.
Ran Six in the Stix this morning out at Forest Hill Park. The course composed the trails in the park plus part of the Buttermilk Trail. Very challenging hilly and rocky terrain. But great fun was had by all!!!! Plus the chili was very good too.
Joe, I did sign up for the 5 miler on the 25th at Virginia Wesleyan [I believe]
I plan on taking my son to lunch and then coming on back so if you want to enter and then ride down, that's fine.
Six in The Stix tomorrow morning at Forest Hill Park. These are well beaten trails. You are gaurenteed not to get lost although you might run off the trail and roll down a hill!!!
Joe, I will meet you at 9...I may go to the park early to squeeze some extra miles in.
Megan: I can run on Sunday morning at 9am. We can do a long run if you would like. For me thats 7-10 right now. I squeezed in 3 at the park yesterday late afternoon/evening. I had to run hard cause I was racing the sunset.
For runners in the Ashland/Mechanicsville area - there is a trail development/clean-up planned for this Saturday at Washington-Lacy Park at 9:00 a.m. (park is located at the intersection of Woodside Ln & Jamestown Rd in Ashland). This park has a lot of potential.
Joe: Do you want to run this weekend? I've been running mornings and getting myself back into shape. I plan on signing up for the marathon in Pocahontas. I have a course description (very detailed turn by turn description) to share with you. It would be nice to try to get some long runs in using the course
