Supporting running in the metro Richmond area

Last Thursday I was running a 4 hour run on the trails in Cumberland State Forest where I direct the Bear Creek 10 Mile and the Willis River 35K & 50K.

As usual I can run for hours and never see another "human".

The trails are quite overgrown, and as I coming down a section of the Cumberland Mult-iuse Trail I noticed somthing dark in the tall grass about 50 yards in front of me.

That something "dark" raised it's head and looked at me with a surprised look. It was a black bear!  It dashed off into the woods and I proceeded with caution.

About 5 minutes later after the trail takes a 90 degree turn, the bear "pops" out of the woods on the trail in front of me again. Again, we were both surprised.

After I finished my run I went to the State Forest Office in the area and reported the sighting. It was the first sighting in the area in several years.

So don't miss the BEAR CREEK 10 MILE RUN in December!
