It's funny how the body remembers before the mind. Running this past week and feeling the gravel beneath my feat and the wind in my face was definitely a euphoric feeling that brought back memories of 6 years ago back, when I ran consistently and competitively. Though I'm only 21, it's been years since I last signed up for something and ran it. My body fell into neglect and since ran in storage mode. This week though I feel excited to run again, compelled to wipe off the dust on my running shoes and get onto the trail for another hard-pressed day of endurance and fun.
I had trained the past month, to get back into shape to run these events. Graduating high school at 145lbs and now in college weighing up until last month at 197lbs, I knew the road would be longer and harder than any run I've done up until now. With 2 weeks of strength training to get back my muscular strength and endurance and 2 1/2 weeks of cardiovascular training, I'm starting to get back there. I've gained some lean mass and lost about 10lbs of fat mass, so it's been working. I've been feeling good. Tomorrow will be my first real run in a while, and though it's only 5k, I'm looking forward to it.
